Cut the Jargon: What We Actually Want for All Students

Celebrating SELDay with CASEL and SEL4US

When parents and caregivers are asked about their hopes for their children's education, they overwhelmingly agree: They want their children to develop career and life skills, build positive relationships with others, and work toward their goals. The consensus is that social and emotional learning (SEL) is essential to education.

Recent attention to politically-divisive narratives have fueled a debate over educational acronyms and terms. But when we take the time to cut through the jargon, we uncover a deeper understanding around what we actually want for all students.

Broad agreement around education may not make media headlines, but the value of SEL is clear. This SEL Day, join CASEL and SEL4US for a thought leadership discussion on finding common ground on social, emotional, and academic development.

Together, we can realign our vision of education to focus on what's best for children.
