Two-day and three-day Sustainable Schoolwide SEL Implementation Training for Principals
and School Teams
The two-day training is an orientation for schools on how to implement
and sustain schoolwide SEL. After completing the training, school
teams will have a clear understanding of SEL, the relationship to
high quality education, and connection to academic success. Teams
will develop a plan for the initial steps of SEL implementation,
identify strategies to translate that plan into action, consider
long-term sustainability factors, and begin SEL implementation.
The core document guiding this training is CASEL’s Sustainable,
Schoolwide SEL: Implementation Guide and Toolkit.
The three-day training includes a one-day advanced booster session a few months after the initial two-day workshop. During this advanced workshop, school teams have the opportunity to explore the concepts of SEL skills and climate more intensively. They also revisit the SEL implementation plans they made during the two-day workshop, revising and updating accordingly.
Upcoming training dates: July 24-25, 2008 (July Registration Flyer) & August 14-15, 2008 (August Registration Flyer), in Chicago, IL.
Administrator Academies
In partnership with state ROEs, CASEL offers a 6-hour Administrator
Academy (AA) for administrators in order to help them interpret
the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Act, explore the new
social and emotional learning standards, and understand the implications
of both for their students, schools, and district. This Administrator
Academy is also intended to augment administrator knowledge of the
research base and academic and work-skills impacts of SEL. The workshop
is designed to provide administrators with an understanding of the
crucial role they play in launching a schoolwide SEL initiative,
as well as orient them to the steps involved in implementing SEL
schoolwide.
