Local school districts play a critical role in influencing what happens in schools and classrooms. With this in mind, CASEL has begun to focus on building district-level support for social and emotional learning. We believe that social and emotional learning should be a central focus of districts’ efforts to ensure high-quality education for all students, and we are committed to working with districts to make this possible. Our Collaborating Districts Initiative will support eight large school districts in building capacity for high-quality, evidence-based programming to promote social and emotional learning in preschool through 12th grade. CASEL will work collaboratively with these districts to achieve the goal of making social and emotional learning an essential part of every child’s education. By documenting lessons learned from this project, we hope to develop new tools and strategies that will make district-wide social and emotional learning possible in districts across the country.
This section of the website presents an evolving portrait of the Collaborating Districts Initiative. We hope it will be a valuable resource for those who want to learn from current work on an important new frontier in education.
